
THE FIRM
In 2006, Vinoo Varghese, after working 6 years as a prosecutor, created his own practice concentrating on federal and state criminal defense.
Mr. Varghese represents clients in an array of matters where the government either has charged his clients with crimes or is investigating his clients for criminal activity.
These accusations or causes of actions include the following:

- Weapons Possession - gun, dangerous instruments, deadly weapons.
Mr. Varghese's prior experiences as a prosecutor have helped him secure a number of dismissals for his clients as well as favorable pleas for other clients.
In some cases, Mr. Varghese has helped prevent the arrest of clients who came to him early enough.
FORMER PROSECUTOR
From September 2000 to February 2006, Mr. Varghese served as an Assistant District Attorney (A.D.A.) in the Brooklyn (Kings County) District Attorney's Office.
As an A.D.A., Mr. Varghese tried over 20 cases to verdict, wrote several appellate briefs, argued cases before the Appellate Division, and investigated homicides.
In 2005, Brooklyn District Attorney Charles J. Hynes honored Mr. Varghese with the distinction of naming him Senior Assistant District Attorney as well as appointing him to head the Assault on Police Officers Program, which handled all serious cases of assaults on NYPD officers in Brooklyn.
In January 2006, while running the Assault on Police Officers Program, Mr. Varghese investigated and prosecuted the first defendant charged under New York State's newly enacted enhanced sentencing laws for those attempting to kill police officers.
WHILE IN LAW SCHOOL
In the fall of 1999, Mr. Varghese interned for Mr. Alan Vinegrad, then the Chief Assistant United States Attorney for the Eastern District of New York. Mr. Varghese completed research projects for Mr. Vinegrad, which included writing sections of the government's sentencing memorandum opposing former police officer Justin Volpe's requests for downward departures under the United States Sentencing Guidelines, after Volpe had violated Abner Louima's civil rights in Brooklyn's 70th Precinct.
In the summer of 1999, Mr. Varghese interned in the Sex Crimes Bureau of the Kings County District Attorney's Office.
In the summer of 1998, Mr. Varghese interned for Ms. Lisa Smith, Assistant Professor of Clinical Law at Brooklyn Law School and former Executive Assistant District Attorney in the Kings County District Attorney's Office Domestic Violence Bureau.
